An Industry in Evolution

The Inaugural Irish Gaming Conference, Cork, Ireland. 23/24 September, 2008

After many months of interaction with senior figures in the Irish and International Gaming industry, Purcell & Associates have initiated the Irish Gaming Conference to provide a consultative forum for the industry, by the industry.

As the Irish Government recently published its Casino Regulation Committee Report while continuing its comprehensive review of the Irish Gaming landscape and as operators seek revision of many outdated legislative influences, the time is right for the industry to get together and explore the issues of consequence to each vertical niche of the industry. Bookmakers, casinos, bingo clubs, adult gaming centres, lotteries, machine operators and more, all desire a modern, regulated environment to work in.

Without such regulation, there are too many ambiguities and vagaries in the law to allow substantial investment to the levels the Irish market deserves. However, with regulation comes a 'legitimising' of operations which will also come with an operational burden. From social responsbility requirements to a potentially altered tax regime, the industry now has an opportunity to mould the future of Gaming in Ireland.
